dinner @ Azuma, Queensbay Mall

An old pal of mine recently came back for holidays from Australia. Since she had left Penang for more than 1 year, i decided to take her to try this Japanese restaurant in Queensbay Mall. Azuma is a very classy-looking Japanese restaurant, from the outside and inside. It has a few sections of seatings, which include one by the conveyor belt.

an aquarium just right next to where we sit!

A flip through the menu, the prices are quite reasonable for such a classy-looking restaurant. And so, we decided to call a few dishes to eat with rice.

hotate iri chahan - USA scallops fried rice RM10 (good!)

unagi kabayaki - grilled eel with special teriyaki sauce RM22 (good!)

niku dofu misoni - deep fried beancurd topped with soya bean paste RM12 (a little too sweet)

chicken teriyaki - pan fried chicken with special teriyaki sauce RM18 (average)

nishiki sakana - grilled salmon fish with sale and cod fish with teriyaki sauce RM28 (good!)

yose nabe - mix seafood and vegetable in claypot RM35 (good!)

free ice cream for each of us which is part of their current promotions

Basically the food there taste alright except that some were a little too sweet and salty. The environment is something to be complimented on as well.

Malaysia YES

It's December and Malaysia YES (Year End Sale) is here again!! As i've just spent my previous weekend in KL, i have definitely did my part in contributing to Malaysia's economy in KL.
Now, you must be asking where to shop? Well, it depends on what you are looking for. If you are are a brand-avid, you don't have to worry as practically every shopping complex all over the country has branded clothings' outlets. If you want to look for cheap clothes disregard of the brand, then you can go to Berjaya Times Square's 3rd and 4th floor for example. There, you can find clothes from as cheap as RM10. You can also try Sungei Wang's 7th floor. Besides that, a good place for home decoration (and i mean really unique and pretty decos), you can try "Robinsons" at the "The Gardens".

A must-see shop located at Gurney Plaza's ground floor is "Eclipse", a local brand selling from clothes to shoes to accessories and bags. For the current YES, they have sales up to 70% discounts.
a pair of sandal from Eclipse
I've also been to the newest supermarket in town, Sunshine City @ Pg Times Square. However, i was totally disappointed as Sunshine City only occupies 2 storeys of Pg Times Square. The ladies, gents and children department were combined in the same floor while the groceries takes up 1 whole floor on its own. Nothing much to see in clothings section as spaces were limited. Nevertheless, i kind of like the accessories as the brand provider is a little different from the usual. Another plus point is the price which are rather lower compared to that of other places.

breakfast @ Jalan Alor, KL

While we were still at KL, we decided to try out the famous hawkers along Jalan Alor, Jalan Bukit Bintang, KL. We had our breakfast at Restaurant Cu Cha famous for their "wan tan mee".

though famous for their "wan tan mee", Restaurant Cu Cha also has got other stalls selling chicken rice, etc

our main star for the post-the delicious "wan tan mee" (everyone gave it a thumb's up for its springy and crispy noodle)

"wan tan" in soup which comes with the "wan tan mee"

hot coffee

iced nescafe
Food and drink taste just as good. Nevertheless, the price for a plate of "wan tan mee" at RM4.50 each is of course not cheap. But still, i would not miss it if i ever go to KL again.
Til then, happy eating!!

Fung Lye @ The Gardens, KL

After my first post on my lunch in KL. Here was what i had for dinner. And, i certainly got to acknowledge my cousin brother, Davis and his wife, Jocelyn for bringing me to this wonderful restaurant to dine. Not only do they have good food, they also have perfect service!
Located in The Gardens, a complex frequented by lots of people, you definitely got to be prepared if you have to wait long before you get a table. Nevertheless. this Taiwanese restaurant "Fung Lye" has got comfy cusions located outside of their restaurants specially for patrons who are waiting for their seats. Not only that, the patrons are also served with specially brewed tea while waiting to be called to their table.

According to Davis and Jocelyn, this restaurant is famous of their sweet potato balls too which costs only RM4.90. Unfortunately, we were all very full from our previous meal and so we did not order. Also, the set which we ordered were very big in portion.

taiwan minced-meat sauce noodle-RM17.80

fried sliced beef with green onion in claypot set meal-RM19.80

three varieties of supreme diced chicken-RM19.80
All the set meals come with a bowl of rice and 3 other side dishes (change daily) and a bowl of soup. And i love the ones we got the other day.

fried lotus root (a little spicy and crispy-nice); fish cake (not so bad); a kind meat (duck probably-too cold)

love the way the soup is served-in this authentic china porcelain bowl

 fried vegetable

cold oolong passion-RM7.30

papaya milk juice-RM7.30

apple yogurt juice-RM7.30

"Fung Lye" is definitely a must-try especially for those Chinese-food keens.

lunch @ Fung Wong, Berjaya Times Square, KL

I spent my last weekend at KL, 1 main reason to attend my company's annual dinner held in the newest 5-star hotel, The Royale Chulan Hotel, situated in KL town area. Of course, i also took advantage to walk around KL, hunting for nice food.
As we stayed very near to Times Square, we have decided to catch a quick lunch as it was late noon when we arrived at KL. And, this place named "Fung Wong", situated on the 3rd floor of Berjaya Times Square, just right opposite of Old Town Kopitiam caught my attention.

It was as nicely decorated as the other dining places but the food definitely smells good from outside.

The prices here are not that expensive as well. You can get a plate of rice from as low as RM5 and a cup of drink from as low as RM2. And, you can tell this place has definitely got its own customers' frequency too.
Well, here was what we ordered...

chicken rice-rice given was definitely more than the usual 1-bowl
taste: superb!!

upclose of the chicken from the chicken rice-looks yummy huh?

hor-fan-taste good too

sweet and sour pork which comes with a bowl of white rice

our drink for the day, iced lor-han-guo

"Fung Wong" is certainly worth a try if you happen to be in Berjaya Times Square, KL.

simple yet delicious lunch 1

If you are a Penangite, i'm sure you would know where to get the best 'lor mee'. Even Jason from "Taste with Jason" has interviewed this stall. It is located in a yellow colour house (some people call it "the yellow house") at the corner of Jones Road. This coffee shop has expanded from 1 lot to 3 now with its popularity rise among customers.
Besides the famous lor mee, they also have "nasi kandar", "western food", "char koay teow" and the particular meal that i  wanna introduce today, the simple yet delicious set lunch.
This set lunch comprises of main meal (options from sweet and sour meat or fish or chicken to black pepper chicken and etc), a bowl of soup and a bowl of rice. They also have everyday's specialties. And, so happen on the day i visited this stall, they had "nyonya food".

kapitan chicken

otak fish

1 set costs RM5.50 and my friend and i decided to call 2 sets to share. We ordered the "kapitan chicken" and "otak fish". The portion is just sufficient for a meal for 1 person. And, the taste is superb! Another thing i like about it is that all dishes are served in the traditional China porcelain and you eat the rice with chopsticks which brings back reminescence of the days when i dined with my grandfather.
Well, one thing for sure, i'll definitely go back to try the other sets.

1st invited review to Hardwicke House

First of all, i want to thank Duckie for taking me along to the invited review for bloggers at Hardwicke House for dinner. This shall then mark my first invited review to a dining place. And, indeed it was a marvelous experience to be remembered and shared!
Being the only freshie in the review, i was rather intimidated as the rest of the bloggers had their DSLR cameras in their hands and capturing pictures and taking down notes so professionally while i am only accompanied by my tiny whiny little digital camera. Nevertheless, i still managed to do my best and i shall now proudly present you all with my first invited review report! Happy reading!! ;)

There were a total of 16 seats reserved for the bloggers. The table they had reserve for us for in a corner free from the disturbance of others. It was well decorated with the necessary cutlery and glasses for wine tasting purposes.

Unlike my first blog on Hardwicke House on lunch, their dinner promotion was little different as it includes BBQ as well.
So, here's the list of food that we savoured on that night...(drum's roll please...)

an array of desserts

clockwise from top left: baked cured salmon with cheese, lamb rogan josh, chicken curry, roast beef

clockwise from top left: chicken lobak, spaghetti bolognoise(beef), fried rice and fried noodle, fried cabbage, sambal brinjal and dalca

top: salad and its sauces
bottom left: tandoori chicken and naan
bottom right: asparagus soup (creamy but not so much of asparagus taste)

all about bbq; from chicken to sausages to prawns to lamb...

Basically the food were delicious as ever. I love the desserts more than ever!

Besides the tasty meals, we also get to do coffee-sampling and wine-tasting as well. It was like attending a short and precise class on coffee wine...very interesting definitely as i have more knowledge on them now!

Cappuccino @ RM 5.50; Cafe Latte @ RM 6.50; Espresso @ RM 3.80; Regular Black @ RM 3.80

left: Verduzzo (RM 55 per bottle); works great with appetizers as it has a sweet end to taste bud
middle: Schubert Hardwicke Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2002; very strong red wine, works well with all kinds of food..also notices the "Hardwicke Reserve" stamp on the label which indicates the priority given to Hardwicke
right: Terranoble Sauvignon Blanc 2005 (RM 63 per bottle); another white wine to blend in with the main meals, but i personally prefer the Verduzzo
*all pictures of wine courtesy of Jason*

Hoped you enjoy reading the review! Til then...happy eating!! ;)
