Paddington Pancakes @ Queensbay Mall, Penang

I could still remember that the first time I dined in Paddington Pancake was 3 years ago. I didn't have much good impression on my first dining. The forks and knives they gave were so dirty and service was so poor. Recently, my university friends decided to have a gathering and I decided to give it another try. Well, my second-time experience was definitely so much better. Food and service has improved and deserved to be praised. Here were what we ordered:

all-time favourite classic maple/ honey stack - RM7.50

phop blintzes, whipped cheese, caramelised strawberries, almond flakes, raisins & ice cream-RM18.50

treasure box-bite sized dollar pancakes with strawberries, bananas, plums, peaches, raisins, nuts cinnamon and ice cream-RM17

rich and decadent chocolate roll with peanut butter , toasted nuts, Belgian choco chips and choco ice cream-RM17.50 (best meal of the day)

alabama, creamy grilled chicken with caramelized apples on mashed potato pancakes-RM18.50

aussie burger, chicken pattie, lettuce, pineapple ring, egg, onions, gherkins, grilled cheddar & fries-RM24.50

expresso-RM5

iced mocha with whipped cream-RM10.50

banana and mango shake-RM10.50

Most of us give a thumb up for rich and decadent chocolate roll. The chocolate they used were really rich and the pancake just melts in your mouth together with the chocolate. The alabama chicken is not bad too. Treasure box is too big a portion though so make sure you have people to share this with. Other than that, all the others tasted so-so.

Fresh boiled milk at Line Clear Nasi Kandar

If you drive along Penang Road, you will see a nasi kandar stall crowded with people. This is the very famous Line Clear nasi kandar. Located beside the famous Line's Clear Nasi Kandar is a stall which sells fresh boiled milk.

The roti canai is not particularly tastier than that of the other stalls.
The plain milk also doesn't really taste any different from the normal milk but the one with milo is indeed very different. It is however not a milo drink. Anyway, milk is believed to be good for health and promotes sleep. So, drop by this stall if you crave for fresh boiled milk. Till then, happy eating!! :)

Mizi, New World Park

Today's post is dedicated to my dear friend, Su, who came back from Australia recently. She was craving for Western food and knowing that she's been someone who can't withstand air-condition place, i've decided to take her to Mizi, New World Park.
Mizi serves a variety of western food from sandwich to poultry to fish. They have set at the price of RM21.90/set which comes with a main meal, drink and dessert. Their ala carte starts from as low as RM12.
Here was what we ordered:

 2 pieces of bread, 1 wholemeal and 1 white which comes complimentary with every main meal

fillet of fish "grenobloise" RM13.50 (lightly egg battered, pan fried with lemon and capers butter sauce, with chef's choice of vegetables)

fillet of fish "lady astor" RM13.80 (pan fried, topped with pineapple and glazed with a horseradish cream sauce)

fillet of fish "almondine" RM12 (pan fried topped with roasted almond flakes and butter sauce)

BearyInformative's recommendation: Almondine is definitely too butterish which causes it to taste a little to salty. Grenobloise is not bad but the best meal to recommend for the day is Lady Astor.

lunch @ Prangin Mall

If you work in town and want to get a quick lunch especially on the days which you have loads of work waiting for you to complete, you should try this place called "Saw Guan Keat", located in Prangin Mall. This shop is rather secluded as it is behind the main shop lots, so you really got to search properly for it. But, do not worry as Beary Informative provides you the address, just scroll to the bottom of this post.
"Saw Guan Keat" is a small business started by a married couple and soon became famous for its herbal chicken rice. So eager to try out what others have been talking about, my colleagues and i decided to have our lunch there yesterday.
And, so these were what we ordered:

sambal chicken rice-RM4.80

bbq sizzling chicken rice (very unique and taste delicious!)-RM4.80

sweet and spicy sizzling chicken rice-RM4.80

what you should try as a first-timer: herbal chicken with rice-RM4.80

jasmine green tea

 

vanilla latte

The drinks cost more than RM2 a cup but if you order any rice dishes, you just need to add RM1 for any of jasmine green tea, vanilla latte, blackcurrant or orange.

This place is rather small but they definitely serve nice and unique food at very reasonable prices. Do stop by if you happen to be at Prangin Mall.

Sugar Dynasty @ Nagore Road

Ever had cravings for desserts? And, at the same time, want to have something to fill the stomach? Well, at Sugar Dynasty, you have all the varieties of Chinese-style desserts one can think of. Not only are they good in desserts, they also serve other dishes such as fried noodles, fried rice, fried mantou, etc. Below are what my colleagues and i ordered when we had lunch there a few days ago.

 every table is completed with the set of cutlery, tissue and menus-though the menus look like they need a new look ;)

for any order of main meal (please to menu when you're there), you're entitled to get a cup of home-made herbal tea each

  romaine lettuce with oyster sauce-RM3.50

double boiled papaya with almond (my all-time favorite)-RM2.70

My colleagues would agree with me that some of the desserts are nice while some are just so-so. In fact the fried maggi mee, chin choo and bee hoon were a little too pricey as they were common hawker food.

Still, i would suggest that this place is a must-go!

dinner @ Azuma, Queensbay Mall

An old pal of mine recently came back for holidays from Australia. Since she had left Penang for more than 1 year, i decided to take her to try this Japanese restaurant in Queensbay Mall. Azuma is a very classy-looking Japanese restaurant, from the outside and inside. It has a few sections of seatings, which include one by the conveyor belt.

A flip through the menu, the prices are quite reasonable for such a classy-looking restaurant. And so, we decided to call a few dishes to eat with rice.

hotate iri chahan - USA scallops fried rice RM10 (good!)

unagi kabayaki - grilled eel with special teriyaki sauce RM22 (good!)

niku dofu misoni - deep fried beancurd topped with soya bean paste RM12 (a little too sweet)

 chicken teriyaki - pan fried chicken with special teriyaki sauce RM18 (average)

nishiki sakana - grilled salmon fish with sale and cod fish with teriyaki sauce RM28 (good!)

yose nabe - mix seafood and vegetable in claypot RM35 (good!)

 free ice cream for each of us which is part of their current promotions

Basically the food there taste alright except that some were a little too sweet and salty. The environment is something to be complimented on as well.

Malaysia YES

It's December and Malaysia YES (Year End Sale) is here again!! As i've just spent my previous weekend in KL, i have definitely did my part in contributing to Malaysia's economy in KL.
Now, you must be asking where to shop? Well, it depends on what you are looking for. If you are are a brand-avid, you don't have to worry as practically every shopping complex all over the country has branded clothings' outlets. If you want to look for cheap clothes disregard of the brand, then you can go to Berjaya Times Square's 3rd and 4th floor for example. There, you can find clothes from as cheap as RM10. You can also try Sungei Wang's 7th floor. Besides that, a good place for home decoration (and i mean really unique and pretty decos), you can try "Robinsons" at the "The Gardens".

A must-see shop located at Gurney Plaza's ground floor is "Eclipse", a local brand selling from clothes to shoes to accessories and bags. For the current YES, they have sales up to 70% discounts.

I've also been to the newest supermarket in town, Sunshine City @ Pg Times Square. However, i was totally disappointed as Sunshine City only occupies 2 storeys of Pg Times Square. The ladies, gents and children department were combined in the same floor while the groceries takes up 1 whole floor on its own. Nothing much to see in clothings section as spaces were limited. Nevertheless, i kind of like the accessories as the brand provider is a little different from the usual. Another plus point is the price which are rather lower compared to that of other places.
