Isaribi Tei @ Burmah Square

I'm not a big fan of sashimi but i love Japanese food. I used to like raw salmon until i got food poisoning caused by eating some contaminated salmon at a rather famous Japanese restaurant. Since then, whenever i go to Japanese restaurant, i only take cooked food. Another nice Japanese restaurant i found recently serving nice food at a fair price. I went there for lunch with my ex-form 6 classmates a few days ago.
this place is filled with very romantic and soft lightings with a boost of latest chart-topper songs
sauteed beef with ginger-RM20
 grilled salmon belly (shio)-RM20
grilled salmon (teriyaki)-RM16
beef teppanyaki-RM30
 blue cheese ice cream -RM5
 green tea ice cream-RM5

All we ordered was set which comes with a bowl of rice and soup. Unfortunately, they should have added in some salad and fruit as well like the other Japanese restaurant. A friend of mine commented that they lacked vinegar on top of the rice given which lessen the Japanese feel. Still, i think the food is good and the ice cream is a must try although a little pricey.

Starz Diner @ Hard Rock Hotel

Gong Xi Fa Cai everybody!!! Hope your holidays were as good as mine! :)
I went to dine at Starz Diner at Hard Rock Hotel on the second day of Chinese New Year. Starz Diner is the hotel's coffee house. To my surprise, Hard Rock Hotel was not as grand as what others told about. The food was barely average. The fish from the fish and chips i ordered was consisting mostly of flour instead of fish.
However, the waiters and waitresses were definitely very friendly.
wholemeal bun which comes with all orders-a little too hard
watermelon juice-RM25 (superbly pricey!!)
starz club sandwich (sandwich with smoked turkey and bacon and egg)-RM25
fish and chips (a big no-no for second visit)-RM25
sumac spiced chicken breast (not bad, perhaps the best of all the dishes)-RM30
coconut and lime marinated fish (fish smells a little too fishy with very thick coconut coat)-RM20

The whole experience Hard Rock was not very pleasant as the food itself was not something to be proud of. Perhaps they are still new. Maybe we shall wait a little longer before we go there for the second time.

Bangkok Tomyam @ Bayan Lepas

A cousin of mine recently treated me to this very special Malay-Thai cuisine restaurant located at Bayan Lepas, near the Penang International Airport. This place serves Malay food with a special touch of Thai style.
It is non-air conditioned but has fans to keep the place cool. However, I feel that the ventilation was not good enough as i went home smelling like i've been working in the kitchen for 12 hours.
The price of the food is not very pricey as you can get a dish as low as RM2. They even serve in sets which comes with rice, dishes as well as a jug of fruit juice of your choice.
As there were 6 of us, we decided to order the set for 4-6 persons which costs RM66. There are 6 dishes in the set.
tomyam campur (mixed tomyam of chicken, prawns, squids)-a little spicier would make it taste better
ayam goreng gajus (chicken fried with cashew nuts)-unique
daging masak merah (beef)-i don't take beef but according to my cousin, it tasted good
kailan ikan masin (kailan with salted fish)-a little too salty but otherwise, just nicely fried
ikan siakap steam limau (sweet and sour steamed fish)-no fishy smell, love it!!
kerabu meepelam (mango kerabu) - nice!!
and the set ends with a jug of carrot juice which is very pure and concentrated
we decided to add another dish-telur dadar (fried egg with onions) which only costs us RM3 for the big plate and the taste is good
As this place is rather far from the town area, most people might not notice of its existence especially those working/ staying in the town area like me. :) It would be more convenient for thos who happen to go to places near the airport or work in Bayan Lepas area.

Pirates of the Cary Bean~~

A newly open cafe named Cary Bean Cafe has captured my attention a few times when i drive along Kelawei Road. Finally, my colleagues and i got a chance to try out the food there.
It is an open air cafe and the menu has quite a variety of food and drinks. Here were what we ordered:
mee maggie tomyam seafood-RM6.90
mee maggie kari-RM6.90
mee maggie Cary Bean-RM6.90
nasi goreng special-RM.6.90
teh tarik-RM2.50
apple juice-RM3
honey dew juice-RM3

The food overall taste average. The place could be rather humid and hot at times depending on the weather as it is open air. I suggest to go in the evening or at night if you are the kind of person of cannot tolerate heat. Besides that, there are ample parking lots.

Paddington Pancakes @ Queensbay Mall, Penang

I could still remember that the first time I dined in Paddington Pancake was 3 years ago. I didn't have much good impression on my first dining. The forks and knives they gave were so dirty and service was so poor. Recently, my university friends decided to have a gathering and I decided to give it another try. Well, my second-time experience was definitely so much better. Food and service has improved and deserved to be praised. Here were what we ordered:
all-time favourite classic maple/ honey stack - RM7.50
phop blintzes, whipped cheese, caramelised strawberries, almond flakes, raisins & ice cream-RM18.50
treasure box-bite sized dollar pancakes with strawberries, bananas, plums, peaches, raisins, nuts cinnamon and ice cream-RM17
rich and decadent chocolate roll with peanut butter , toasted nuts, Belgian choco chips and choco ice cream-RM17.50 (best meal of the day)
alabama, creamy grilled chicken with caramelized apples on mashed potato pancakes-RM18.50
aussie burger, chicken pattie, lettuce, pineapple ring, egg, onions, gherkins, grilled cheddar & fries-RM24.50
expresso-RM5
iced mocha with whipped cream-RM10.50
banana and mango shake-RM10.50

Most of us give a thumb up for rich and decadent chocolate roll. The chocolate they used were really rich and the pancake just melts in your mouth together with the chocolate. The alabama chicken is not bad too. Treasure box is too big a portion though so make sure you have people to share this with. Other than that, all the others tasted so-so.
