Sri Batik Nyonya Cafe

Although Chinese New Year has way passed by, i'm still in the mood of having big feasts. Recently, i had the opportunity again when we celebrated our boss' birthday at this very uniquely decorated Nyonya place called Sri Batik Nyonya Cafe. Out of the so many restaurants that i have been to in Penang, i like this most as the interior decorations matches its theme so perfectly! Even the waitresses wear kebaya! It was an ambiance meant to be remembered and re-visit.
Nevertheless, this elderly aunty (i suspect is the boss) who served us was a little too pushy with things. She will insist that you make a lot of order and all of them in big portion! If you say no, you will see an immediate change in her facial expression, which indirectly contributes to our entertainment of the day! ;p

 the batik-like table cloth
the specially brewed tea (RM4/ cup)
from left: rose honey tea, green tea, osmantus orange honey tea
taste nothing special-too costly!!
their famous dish-gulai tumis sotong (RM24)
taste best of all the dishes we ordered
seafood otak (RM14)
taste so-so
huan-chu-hiok (potato leaves) fried with sambal (RM9)
 not recommended
kapitan chicken (RM24)
in re-order list

All in all, the food was not bad although a little too pricey. Will go there again, perhaps only for another celebration or special occasion.

Banana Pancake

I have always loved the hawker's. And i'm so proud to be staying in Penang as it is famously known as the hawkers' paradise. This kopitiam named "G Town", located along Burmah Road, opposite of Kamdar has this pancake stall. I love the pancake there as i feel it is very unique.

the uniquely-taste banana pancake with a sprinkle of sesame seeds on top
The small pancake costs RM3 and you can order according to the amount of people you are sharing it with.
One of my favorite dessert, you should now missed out trying it too!! ;)

Max Gourmet @ Gurney Plaza

Had a dinner-cum-movie treat with my friends last weekend. We dined at Max Gourmet, located at the same floor as Golden Screen Cinemas, Gurney Plaza, Penang. This place offers a member card at the price of RM10 which entitles you to a 10% discount on the whole bill of each dining.

delicious tomato fried rice-RM5.90 (very tomato-ish)
honey bbq pork with crispy noodle-RM6.90
bbq pork rice-RM4.90 (not recommended)
cheese baked with mongolia style fish fillet rice-RM10.90 (very cheesy and taste a little spicy because of the capsicums)
winter melon with sea coconut-RM3 (suitable for cooling down body heat especially during the hot weather)
midnight mist (a mixture of soda, lime and ribena)- RM5.90 (not recommended)

Max Gourmet offers a wide variety of food besides what i have mentioned. They also have dim sums served whole day. I will definitely go back there for more. Til then, happy eating!! ;)

Kocha Taiwanese food

Have you ever met a person who is so in love with a particular food at a particular place that he or she visits the place almost everyday in a week? Well, recently, my friend confessed to me that she is one and she invited to me dine with her in this favorite place of hers. Immediately when we sat down, she didn't even bother to look at the menu and straight ordered her favorite dish. This place has indeed got a very nice ambience. The menu was so filled with options that it took me more than 10 minutes to decide on my order.
there were about 3 aquariums (the aquariums are very well-kept) in the entire restaurant, perhaps the boss believed in fishes bringing good luck for the business
spicy vegetarian noodle set which comes with drink, dessert and fruit (RM13.80)
my friend's favorite, minced pork and rice set (RM12.80)
 red tea cold
milk tea
dessert, red bean soup

The food comes in very big portion so if you want to try a variety of them, try to call ala carte instead of set. Will definitely go back there for another round of other choices!

Nippon Yataimura Japanese Restaurant (miao~~)

Perhaps if you notice, my recent posts on food have been on Japanese. I don't know why but i've been having this crave for Japanese food recently. Today's post will be on the Japanese restaurant name, Yataimura.

 the sushi conveyor belt
Here are a series of food which i ordered during my recent visit there.
salmon roe (RM4)
kani (crab) (RM3)
smoked salmon rolls (RM4)
crab and mayonaisse (RM3)
chicken teriyaki (RM12)
my all-time favorite dish: mapo taufu (RM11)
saba steak rice mini (RM7.90)
another all-time favorite, gekikara ramen (RM16.90)
chocolate ice cream (RM6)
Of all the Japanese restaurant which i have been to, Yataimura is definitely 1 which i will never leave out in my "must-go" list. A plate of mapo taufu is good enough to eat with a bowl of rice for a simple lunch. Happy eating!!

Ice Ice Baby @ Autocity

There used to be an "Ice Ice Baby" in Pulau Tikus, Penang and i kind of like the food and desserts there. But it closed down a few years ago. Lucky thing, they still have another branch in Autocity. And i continued my eating experience at Autocity at Ice Ice Baby, Autocity. Knowing that we just had our dinner, we all decided to go for desserts instead. Indeed, we made a wise choice.
 Power shake-banana and chocolate-RM6.90
blueberry & vanilla ice cream-RM5.90
 banana split-RM7.90
 orange juice and kiwi smoothie-RM4.90 & RM6.90
 mixed fruit snowy-RM7.90

Everything we ordered was simply superb!! Plus point is the price is very reasonable!! Besides dessert, they also have a variety of food from Western to Chinese in their menu. I am definitely going back there again...

Takehana @ Autocity, Juru

I have never driven across the bridge since the day i knew how to drive. I also fear driving there alone as i know driving on the highway is so much different than driving on normal roads. Last Friday, my colleagues were kind enough to accompany me to Autocity, Juru and had actually trusted me to drive them. So, all four us departed for Autocity as early as 5pm in my orange viva.
I also took this opportunity to try restaurants that are not available yet in Penang, Takehana Japanese Restaurant.
 my colleagues busy taking pictures
This restaurant has a very nice feng shui fountain right in front of the entrance. The decorations were very nicely done too. The menus were not so attractive though, a little worn-out but still we were hopeful that the food is good. Nevertheless, i was totally disappointed as the food was less than average as compared to that of other Japanese restaurants.
 ocha, anyone??
 tori teriyaki teishoku-RM16
kimuchi ramen which comes a bowl of fried rice and salad-RM18 (ramen soup is too diluted)
salmon teriyaki-RM18
teppanyaki bento (with fish fillet, pranws, Australian scallop, salad, mixed vegetables with imported shimeji mushroom, chawan mushi, miso soup, rice, pickles and dessert- RM40++
chawan mushi, fruits and pickles

This place has a nice ambience but definitely not great food. Don't think i'm going back there should i drive to Autocity again. Til, then, happy eating everybody!!!
