The Cape @ Gurney Plaza

Celebrated Duckie's birthday recently at the very uniquely decorated restaurant at Gurney Plaza. It is called The Cape, located on the 7th floor of Gurney Plaza, right outside of SENQ. Love the way they used swings as chairs (see picture). Even their food presentation is very unique and interesting!

abalone lamian-RM11.90
 pineapple fried rice-RM11.90
seafood bamboo rice-RM14.90 (my colleague said the "bowl" used to fill the rice looks like coffin) ;p
sesame fish bamboo rice-RM12.90
fried Chinese sausage emperor noodle-RM11.90
 tomato egg fried rice-RM6.90
homemade sweet and sour fish fillet-RM10.90
 steam rice-RM1.50
 what is in the barrel???
black pepper pork ribs rice barrel-RM12.90
duck and chicken rice barrel-RM10.90
clockwise from top left: milk tea cold (RM3.50), white coffee cold (RM3.90), red tea cold (RM2.90), red date hot tea (RM3.50)
a quill's egg and red date only for red date hot tea
almond tea with soya milk-RM4
left: white coffee with ice cream-RM5.50
right: pennyroyal tea cold-RM4
I would personally say the presentations of the food in this place is indeed very interesting and special. Prices of the food could be a little pricey though for simples dishes like above. However, i have no complain for the food because so far all that we ordered are palatable. I will definitely go back there again one day...

Super Tanker food court @ Lip Sin

One of the biggest food court found in Penang, the Super Tanker food court, located at Lip Sin offers a vast choices of hawker selections.
char koay teow (not as nice as it's seen) -RM3

Hainanese style "tai lok mee" (actually cooked with mango kerabu, a little too sour) -RM4.50
 fish meat bee hun-RM4
  glutinous rice-RM1.80
my all-time favorite, plain chee cheong fan with only soya sauce-RM1.60

Note that the hawker stalls in Super Tanker differ in noon and night. They actually have more selections for dinner time.

Shanghai Ding-House of Dumplings

Located on the block of shophouses alongside Queensbay Mall, Shanghai Ding is another nice place for traditional Chinese dim sum. It has a variety of dim sums as well as fried dishes.

the attractively printed menu
an array of Chinese tea for your selections
 QQ fried rice-RM6.80 (nice!)
Shanghai meat dumpling-RM6.80 (their specialty, a must order for first-timer)
fried radish cake (char koay kak)-RM6.80

Basically the food taste ok overall...We went there for tea time and so did not order any dim sum but i have been there for dim sums quite some time ago before i started this blog and the food actually worths the money.

The Sticks @ Queensbay Mall

The Sticks is located just right outside of Queensbay Mall. It is a premise all by itself and looks very interesting from the outside. After so many plannings with my friends, we finally get to give it a try. However, before you look at the pictures, i must warn you that the food there is horrible!! The menu has a strong stench which stays on your hands like forever!
a view from the road
the interior which looks nice and deceiving indeed...
this is a place for drinking too...but i took a quite snap at the menu and found that the alcoholic drinks are actually more expensive compared to other places
left: lemon ice & right: honey lemon
spicy waikiki sardine pasta (RM13.80)-sardine smell too strong
mango grilled hawaiian mahi fish (RM13.80)
meaty beefballs pasta (13.80)
All in all, my experience at Sticks was really an unpleasant one. I never want to go back there.

Hong Kong style chee cheong fan @ Max Gourmet, Gurney Plaza

It's weird that people have cravings every now and then. As for me, my cravings are usually very random. Just recently i craved for Hong Kong style chee cheong fan. A friend then recommended the one at Max Gourmet, Gurney Plaza.
our star dish-original Hong Kong style chee cheong fan (RM3.90) which was supposed to have prawns filling but unfortunately, it was hollow!! :(
Hong Kong style chee cheong fan wrapped with "yao char kuih" (RM3.90)-at least we've got this consolation after a disappointment in the first dish
"Max siew mai" (RM2.40)-didn't taste any special than the ordinary siew mai
deep fried wantan(RM5.90)-rather pricey for a simple dish like this
oriental fried rice (RM5.90)-perhaps tasted the best among all the dished
from left: milk tea(RM3) and coffee(RM3)

This is really not a very happy eating trip as 70% of what we ordered was really not up to par. Well, i guess then i have to find a better place to ease my craving for Hong Kong style chee cheong fan. :)

Sakae Sushi @ Gurney Plaza

Dad has always been a typical Chinese, always heading for Chinese cuisine but this trip to Sakae Sushi was actually initiated by him. Shocked but glad at the same time as the good thing about going out for a feast with your family is that you get to order as much as you want which means you get to try as many varieties as possible. :)
love the lightings in this place
no matter where you sit, do not worry as the conveyor belts surrounds the entire place
 the green tea bag

the very conveniently done bench to store the menu
 salmon sushi-RM1.90
egg sushi-RM3.90
dad's  favorite: octopus-RM5.90
unagi and salmon roll-RM5.90 (not recommended)
 salmon fried rice-RM8.90
 agedashi tofu-RM5.90 (recommended)
chicken + seafood set which comes with fried garlic rice, soup and chawan mushi-RM28.90
fried garlic rice, miso soup and chawan mushi (comes with the set above)
yaki soba-RM10.90 (recommended)
cheese yaki-RM10.90 (recommended when your order list is not too long)

The food overall was good. One more thing to commend on is the service. Not sure about Queensbay's, but the waitresses and waiters at Sakae Sushi at Gurney Plaza really have superb manners.
